I earned my M.M. degree in Piano Performance from BYU and enjoy servicing pianos and helping people get more out of a service visit than expected. At each tuning or repair service appointment, I want to fix everything, tune it once or twice and save you money. After the tuning, I offer a piano concert at the end of the visit. After the instrument is repaired and tuned, playing the piano is a new experience. I also teach piano lessons from our music studio in Spanish Fork.

If you have a very old piano, and want to get it restored, such as an old Steinway, there are other options available through stores such as Lindeblad Piano Restoration. They restore older pianos, such as the Steinway Model C shown below. It may be worth looking into if you have an older grand or upright piano.

Tuning by Ear:

People ask me frequently if I tune the piano by ear. Yes, I use both my ear as well as the most accurate device on the market - The Accu-tuner. There is a simple video below which may answer some questions (video used with permission).

To tune a piano by ear, you only need a tuning lever, a mute, and a tuning fork. With that said, I strongly recommend that you do not try to tune your own piano. Improper tuning technique can harm the piano. Occasionally strings break, but bent pins and pin block problems could happen; most of the all, the piano won't stay in tune. Improper equipment may also make the piano difficult to tune in the future.
